The Summer 2020 issue of Signature Luxury Travel & Style magazine is out now, and we are looking at all things Mediterranean – sharing our picks of the top 25 most exclusive and exhilarating experiences in the region, listing seven of the best places to bliss out on a wellness retreat, revealing the best upcoming itineraries to add to your cruise calendar and rediscovering the islands of Greece.

At the end of May last year, workers at the Louvre in Paris held a one-day strike, complaining that they couldn’t handle the growing and increasingly aggressive crowds of visitors. The Croatian city of Dubrovnik has a capacity of 8,000 people at a time, yet saw a 53 per cent increase in tourist arrivals in the first three months of 2019. It begs the question: what are we actually travelling for in this day and age? Is it a horde of selfies sticks at the Leaning Tower of Pisa or the fear of being trampled at Barcelona’s La Sagrada Familia? In our last issue for the year, we take a look at the effects of overtourism in Europe, consider how we can still see the world – sensitively and sustainably – and remind ourselves to open our hearts and our minds to the wonder of discovering new places, cultures and peoples.

On this note, we ask a panel of experts to predict what’s going to be trending in travel in 2020. Their feedback? Sustainable tourism, remote destinations, experiential journeys and lesser-visited attractions will be at the forefront of travel decisions for high-end jetsetters: think conservation in Rwanda and exploring the almost tourist-free landscapes of the ‘Stans’.

We also travel by sea to Antarctica on the world’s newest and greenest hybrid-powered expedition cruise ship, explore the rivers, reefs and gorges of Australia’s Kimberley region, hop on board the new Scenic Eclipse for a Caribbean sojourn and take a leisurely river cruise in southern France aboard the sleek Viking Delling.

By land, we embark on a rail journey along Japan’s Golden Route, travel back in time among Jordan’s dune-dressed deserts and Bedouin-run biomes, investigate the ways in which Monaco is staying ahead of the curve in sustainable tourism, journey to Myanmar’s remote islands and bustling lakes, uncover why Sri Lanka has been hiding in plain sight and enjoy a stay at one our favourite resorts in the world, Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai, Hoi An.

In the world of fashion and design, we lust after Chaumet’s dazzling Les Ciels de Chaumet collection and the innovative designs of Celadon – an exquisite private villa in Thailand – before stepping inside Louis Vuitton’s new store locations in Australia and inspecting why the world’s most legendary watches still stand the test of time.
